The alternative meaning of Dhanishtha nakshatra is “Dhwani” means sound “Ishta” means lover of sound/music. The presiding deities of Dhanishtha nakshatra are the Asta Vasus: Apah, Dhruva, Soma, Dhara, Anila, Anala, Prathyusha, and Prabhasa. The Vasus are considered to be “Gods of Abundance”. It is the giver of wealth, precious stone, valuable articles, gold, opulence etc. Therefore it is also called the “The Star of Symphony”.
The symbol of this nakshatra is Drum or the Flute. Due to the symbol of the musical instruments, some of the natives do possess musical ability and love dancing and keep to the rhythm and beat of the drums.
